As Nigeria looks forward to taking part in the 2016 Olympic Games holding in Brazil, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) to release the necessary funds to the various sports federations in the country for timely and adequate preparation.
This was contained in a press release signed by NANS National Director of Sports, Comrade Godwin Erheriene, and made available to TheLeaderng, com on Tuesday in Abuja.
While appreciating Mr President for the release of N2.9 billion during the preparation for the 2015 All Africa Games held in Congo Brazzaville, the group also called on the Anti-corruption agencies to launch a probe into how the fund was used “and help recover what was left of it.”
The group assured that if eventually the fund is released this time to the various sports federations for the forth-coming 2016 Olympic Games, they are brimmed with all the needed potentials and zeal do Nigeria proud at the Olympiad.
“Lack of fund should not continue to be the excuse of sports men and women in our great country Nigeria that is the giant of Africa for not lifting any trophy in this year’s games,” the statement read in conclusion.
